Dawn of Chaos
In the days prior to the SECOND WAR, by agreement the only way The Gods could have any influence or action over anyone on ERATH was if that person/creature worshipped them. To the most loyal of their worshippers and the ones that they wished to bestow influence or action over, they had them enter into a contract with their soul. The results was The Gods mark being bestowed upon them via The God’s CLOAK OF POWER , often in a very noticeable area such as over the “third eye” or forearm. This was done for advertisement and the hopes of drawing in more followers. Some Gods though purposely hid their mark on their loyal followers to aid in subterfuge.
Now, since the reign of the GOD KING ORDER , having a contract/mark with anyone other than ORDER is punishable by immediate death upon being discovered. As far as anyone knows no contracts have been entered into and thus no marks bestowed by anyone other than ORDER for nearly 1000 years. In the early period of ORDER’S reign, a contract with anyone else was referred to as “A soul pledged to the darkness”.
In game terms, no one exists above level 5 without a mark, and even those of level 1-3 are rare.
